Preparing for the AST (Aptitude Scholastic Test) cannot be reduced to drilling practice questions. Students need to understand the relevant high-school subject knowledge and apply it consistently while interpreting questions in English, integrating concepts, calculating accurately, and working within the exam time limit. Universities and programmes may use the test, its subjects, and its scores in different ways, so the current requirements of each target programme must be checked before formal preparation begins.

Based on the target universities and programmes, application round, test date, and the student's current curriculum, CEC determines the preparation sequence for English, Mathematics, and any elective subjects. The initial diagnostic separates knowledge gaps, English comprehension, question-type methods, calculation errors, speed, and composure under pressure, then turns the findings into a subject-specific, staged study plan.

Teaching begins with the syllabus and knowledge framework, then moves into topic-specific question types, integrated problems, timed practice, and full mock examinations. Staged mock examinations replicate the official duration and conditions as closely as possible, followed by a subject-level data report. Every subject uses the same diagnostic principles, but its knowledge structure and training methods differ. Final subject choices must follow official AST information and the requirements of the target universities.

Mathematics

Relevant knowledge in algebra, functions, geometry, calculus, probability, and statistics is reviewed alongside symbol interpretation, modelling, derivation, calculation, and checking. An error log records more than the correct answer: it also identifies whether the error concerned a concept, method, or calculation.

Mathematics usually requires frequent independent practice; classroom teaching cannot replace work outside class.

02Which universities accept the AST?

The scope of acceptance and how the test is used may change by university, school or faculty, programme, and application year. Some universities assess the AST alongside a student's Chinese high-school curriculum background, while others accept it only through particular routes. CEC requires the current official page for each university to be checked, or written confirmation to be obtained; we do not treat an outdated list as a guarantee.

03Which subjects should I take?

Start with the requirements of the target programme and university, then consider the student's school subjects and existing foundation. English, Mathematics, and elective combinations should not be chosen solely because they appear easier to score well in. If a subject does not align with the target programme, even a high score may not satisfy prerequisite requirements.

04Will weaker English affect performance in Science subjects?

Yes. Even when a student knows the formulas, misreading conditions, units, or instructions can cost marks. Science preparation therefore includes high-frequency terminology, breaking down question stems, reading charts, and expressing working in English, with separate language support added where appropriate.

05How long does preparation take?

It depends on the subjects taken, knowledge coverage, target scores, English proficiency, and weekly commitment. A staged plan is provided after the diagnostic. Students with weaker foundations or several subjects to prepare usually need longer. Close to the exam, only high-value knowledge and consistency can be prioritised; completing every topic cannot be promised.

06How often should I take a mock examination?

Topic-based assessments are more appropriate early on, with full mock examinations introduced in the middle and later stages. The schedule must leave enough time to review and correct errors; taking tests repeatedly without addressing mistakes has limited value. Full simulations are scheduled before the exam according to the time remaining and the student's recovery needs.

07Can you guarantee my target score?

No. Official results depend on the student's foundation, commitment, examination-day condition, and marking. We use diagnostic, assignment, and mock-examination data to measure progress and explain promptly whether the goal still fits the available time, but we do not present a forecast as a guarantee.

08How should AST preparation fit with university applications?

Preparation must be scheduled around language tests, major school examinations, written application materials, and application deadlines. The submission method, latest viable test date, and any other required qualifications must be incorporated into the overall application timeline, so the student does not complete the test only to discover that the programme cannot use it.
